As any martial artist will tell you, there are multiple benefits in martial arts training. Of course, the most obvious benefit is the knowledge of self defense. Knowing how to defend oneself is an asset today just as it was hundreds of years ago. Unlike what is often portrayed in movies, martial arts training is not just about fighting.
Many people participate in martial arts training for its fitness benefits. Studies show it enhances flexibility, leg strength, strengthens the immune system and greatly improves balance.
Participating in martial arts also provides a mental and sometimes spiritual element which not only improves the mind's ability to focus but also helps with self control of emotions such as anger and fear. In today's hectic world, these particular benefits translate into one of the most effective stress management tools available.
Yoga is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yoga is also described as a moving meditation where breath and body movements are in harmony with each other. Yoga practice stimulates the flow of energy throughout the body. The Yoga breath delivers oxygen and energy to the body's internal organs stimulating their healing potential. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one and that if it is given the right tools and taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic.
Yoga helps you become more aware of your body's posture, alignment and patterns of movement. One of the foremost reasons why people want to start the practice of yoga is that it makes the body more flexible and helps us relax even in the midst of our day to day stress filled environments.
What is Meditation?
Meditation has been described as paying attention to what is real. Meditation allows us to go deep within ourselves to bring out the spiritual qualities that lie buried within us all.
The process of sitting still in meditation allows us to control the constant mind chatter of distraction. By controlling mind chatter and external distractions we are better able to allow the flow of peaceful, positive thoughts that can ground us and help us better deal with life's challenges.
Meditation is also the perfect opportunity to cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude by allowing us to see all the good that exists in our lives.
